Compare
An honest, sourced comparison - pricing, custom domains, and what happens on the day you cancel or hit a limit.
QR Hero and Uniqode both make dynamic QR codes, but they price and gate very differently. Uniqode charges roughly $2,000 per custom domain per year and only above its Plus tier, and its own FAQ confirms dynamic codes deactivate when a trial ends or a plan lapses. QR Hero includes a customer-owned custom domain from its €24/mo Business tier with no per-domain surcharge, and never silently deactivates a code - you choose how overage is handled, up front.
Every row below is sourced and dated - see the footnote.
| QR Hero | Uniqode | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry-tier price | €24/mo (Business, includes a custom domain) | ~$5-9/mo (Starter), but Starter has no custom domain and only 3 dynamic codes |
| Custom domain | Included from Business, automatic SSL, no per-domain fee | Not offered below Plus; ~$2,000 per domain, per year, once it is |
| If you cancel or a trial ends | You choose hard-stop, auto-upgrade, or pay-per-use - never a silent break | Uniqode's own FAQ confirms dynamic codes deactivate on trial end or cancellation |
| Scan allowance | Unlimited scans from Business up, printed codes never hard-capped | Starter draws from a 25,000-scan yearly pool |
| Agency / white-label | Multi-tenant Organization → Brand model, built into every plan from day one | Available from Business+, with SSO |
Based on Uniqode's (Beaconstac) published pricing and FAQ pages and QR Hero's own pricing page, as of August 2026. Pricing, limits, and gating change without notice on both sides - verify current numbers before deciding.
Uniqode is a capable, well-established dynamic QR code platform, and for a team that never needs its own domain or never hits a plan limit, the two products can feel similar day to day. The differences show up at the edges: the day you want your brand's domain on the scan preview instead of a shared one, and the day a trial lapses or a card fails to renew.
On the first, Uniqode treats a custom domain as a premium add-on gated to its Plus tier and priced by the domain, around $2,000 a year each. QR Hero treats it as core infrastructure included in the €24/mo Business plan, provisioned automatically over Cloudflare with no per-domain fee. On the second, Uniqode's own FAQ confirms that dynamic codes deactivate when a trial ends or a subscription lapses - QR Hero instead lets you choose the overage behavior yourself, so a printed code never goes dead without you deciding that in advance.
The agency row above matters more than a single line in a table suggests. QR Hero's Organization → Brand model is multi-tenant from the first plan, not an add-on unlocked further up the ladder - an agency onboarding its first client can already keep that client's brand, domain, and QR codes cleanly separated from every other account it manages. Uniqode reserves that structure, plus SSO, for Business and above, which works once you're already paying for a higher tier, but adds friction for a small shop still deciding whether white-label QR management belongs in its stack.
Custom domains are exactly the gap the table above is pricing out - see the feature page for how QR Hero's implementation works day to day.
It depends what you need. Uniqode's Starter tier can undercut QR Hero's Business tier on price, but lacks a custom domain and caps you at 3 codes. With a domain in the mix, QR Hero's €24/mo Business tier includes one outright, while Uniqode gates domains to Plus at roughly $2,000 per domain per year - cheaper for anyone who wants one.
Yes, and on more tiers. QR Hero includes a customer-owned custom domain, automatic SSL, and no per-domain surcharge from its €24/mo Business plan. Uniqode does not offer a custom domain at all below its Plus tier, and charges roughly $2,000 per domain per year once you reach it - see Pricing for the full plan breakdown.
With QR Hero, you pick the overage behavior in advance - hard-stop, auto-upgrade, or pay-per-use - so a code you printed never goes dead without your choosing that outcome. Uniqode's own FAQ confirms the opposite: codes become inactive when a trial ends, a plan is cancelled, or certain limits are hit - a real risk on packaging.
Not the physical ones already printed - a printed QR code encodes Uniqode's redirect domain directly, so an already-printed code can't be re-pointed to a different vendor's infrastructure. What you can do is print any new codes through QR Hero from your own domain going forward, so this is the last migration you have to plan for reprints around.
Your first dynamic code is live in minutes, on your own domain.
